A weekend at the lake
This lake happens to be Lake Como, home to the rich and famous since Roman times.
A day spent among the dead
It sounds macabre, but it wasn’t really. We started our day in the Museo Egizio, the most important collection of Egyptian treasures outside of Cairo. (And since it seems unlikely we will be able to visit Cairo anytime soon, we took advantage of this opportunity.)

We’ve arrived in Turin, which is a real city, and a quite wealthy one.
The glory that was Genoa
Genoa had extraordinary power in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Its port and trade connections made for some very rich families.

…I say “Salami!” Yes, we have arrived at the capital of Liguria, Genoa, nicknamed la Superba due to its glorious past.
What? Another day off?
You may think we are running out of steam, taking another day off when we should be exploring and climbing and photographing and generally wandering. But here’s our excuse:
Four out of five ain’t bad
Riomaggiore. Manarola. Corniglia. Vernazza. And then our home town, Monterosso. Yes, we understand that there is some tourist mandate that says you must see/walk/visit each of these, or else you have not done Cinque Terra.
Some things you just can’t plan
We had a great day in Monterossa. First of all, it was warm and sunny, and all clouds had disappeared. It was a great day to see this charming town when it wasn’t throwing buckets of water at us.
